SC14's Inaugural HPC Matters Plenary on the Importance of Supercomputers in Society

Dr. GohJoin us for a new SC plenary event titled "HPC Matters." This year, Dr. Eng Lim Goh, Senior Vice President and CTO at SGI, will lead the session, demonstrating the vital nature of supercomputers across the world's economic, cultural, scientific, and social accomplishments. He will also focus on numerous real-world examples and quantify how much of what is made possible today, would be impossible without HPC. Dr. Goh has invited Piyush Mehrotra, Chief, from NASA Advanced Supercomputing Division, to speak on HPC-based research that is leading us to revolutionary insights about the world.

Physicist and Best-selling author Brian Greene to Keynote SC14

Brian GreeneWhat happens at the crossroads of HPC, science, and society? Dr. Brian Greene, one of the world's leading theoretical physicists and a brilliant, entertaining communicator of cutting-edge scientific concepts, will tell us in his keynote address at SC14. We are happy to welcome Greene to this year's SC conference to discuss the impact of science on our society and the future of physics and our understanding of the universe around us.

Education, ACM and Regular Posters Have been Selected

All those registered for the conference Tech Program are invited to the posters reception at 5:15 PM, Tuesday, November 18 for open discussions with poster authors, food and beverages. With 76 regular and education posters, and 23 ACM SRC (Student Research Competition), The SC14 Posters Committee have selected the very best for the poster sessions. ACM SRC poster oral presentations by the competition finalists will also be held at 3:30 PM on Wednesday, November 19. SC14 BoF Program Released

Don't just observe, ENGAGE! The Birds-of-a-Feather (BoF) sessions are among the most interactive, popular, and well-attended sessions of SC. SC14 promises to continue this tradition with a full schedule of exciting BoFs. Out of 142 BoF proposals, 85 have been selected for presentations. See which BoFs you would like to attend!


The Doctoral Showcase Revisited!
The Place to Meet and Recruit New Colleagues

For 2014, the Doctoral Showcase has been revamped and moved into the SC14 Technical Program. This program provides an important opportunity for students near the end of their Ph.D. to present a summary of their dissertation research in the form of short talks and posters. The SC14 Doctoral Showcase received 44 submissions that underwent rigorous peer review, resulting in 16 students who will present their research in this year's showcase.

We invite you to see the latest work by some of our brightest rising stars on Thursday, November 20. We look forward to meeting you at the SC14 Doctoral Showcase!

Each year the editors of insideHPC and The Exascale Report announce the winner of the HPC Vanguard Award. This award is given in recognition of outstanding leadership in the HPC community and the drive to achieve exascale levels of supercomputing. Read about this year's winner.


Interviewing Session: Call for Interviewers

The Broader Engagement program is looking for volunteers to perform short interviews during a special mock interviewing session from 1:30-3 p.m. Tuesday, November 18, 2014.  If you have experience as an interviewer, please complete the form below to register as an interviewer.

In addition, if you need to cancel an SC14 hotel reservation, October 17 is the last day for canceling without incurring a penalty fee. Contact housing@info.supercomputing.org or check your confirmation email for instructions on canceling.

In continuing the dynamic HPC Impact Showcase on the SC14 Exhibit Floor, the SC14 committee is pleased to invite conference attendees from within industry to share their stories of how HPC has transformed their endeavors and given them a competitive advantage. Your contribution will provide conference attendees with insights and perspectives on what it takes to deliver on the promise of applied HPC now, and in the future, and raise awareness within the community of your company.
