With the ever-increasing compute power offered at the highest end, numerical simulation of physics experiments yields both design and understanding at an unprecedented level. I will describe some recent physics simulations in the field of accelerator and fusion energy research and discuss how they rely on high performance computing (HPC) for true fidelity, design and predictability. I will also discuss how the latest trends in HPC in are affecting simulation techniques.
